Barbecue season might feel a world away, but gorgeously golden sausages are still a favourite winter supper.
Leftovers can be chopped up into a classic tomato pasta sauce or hearty white bean cassoulet, or layered with leftover boiled potatoes, veg and mustard sauce before baking in the oven.
Or - our personal favourite - eat cold bangers straight from the fridge, with a little wholegrain mustard.
To store cooked sausages, freeze immediately or wrap in cling film or foil and keep in the fridge for a maximum of two days.
According to stats from the Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP) we chuck around 1.5 million bangers in the bin every day - along with 5.8 million potatoes.
To help tackle this waste, Sainsbury’s has launched new ‘snap packs’ for its Taste the Difference sausages, so half can be opened and cooked while the rest can be more easily stored or frozen for later use.
And potatoes are now sold in 100 per cent opaque packaging, preventing exposure to light which can turn the skin green.
