Cut to the core: Turn apple scraps into a refreshing tea

According to the Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP), we waste 110,000 tonnes of apples from our homes each year in the UK. That costs householders a whopping £89 million in avoidable waste.

They recommend always storing apples in the fridge, still in their original packaging. If kept in a fruit bowl, they will shrivel and soften more quickly.

And, as one bad apple really can spoil the whole bunch, keep an eye on your fruit, separating out any that may be ripening more rapidly than others.

If you’re cooking with apples, make canny use of your cores and peel by making this refreshing apple tea. The perfect pick-me-up, it’s equally good hot or chilled. Make this and you’ll save on herbal teas and soft drinks, too.
